[Public. Except for T'Pol. You don't get to see.]I got a question, maybe it's a weird one but. You gotta friend here from back home. Maybe they're not even a friend, just someone you work with or know from around the place. Hell, maybe you even hate that person. Say you're both from different points in your life, you're from one year, and they're ( Read more... )

It happens more often than you may believe.

I'm in the same boat, myself--I'm years ahead of the two people from my world right now. We know we're from different times, but we don't tell those who are behind in some aspects what's going to happen. It's just...wrong, telling someone what's going to happen to them before it unfolds.

It's not like I wanna know what happens. Kinda like ruining the ending of a book by flipping to the last page, you know?

I just think it's decent to tell people when you ain't really the person they're used to seeing.

I used to be the furthest behind until very recently--well, recently for here, apparently. I more or less knew they were past my time once I saw their first entries, but we did discuss it later.

Of course, I'm dead in my world. It didn't make a difference that they told me about what happened after I was killed, because there was no chance I'd mess up their timelines. But now that I'm from years into their future, I have to keep quiet on the details.

It's complicated. There's really no "right" way to do it.

So if you're dead back home, how are you years ahead of them now?

[She hadn't told him for a reason, though at the moment T'Pol was hard pressed to convince herself that they hadn't been completely selfish reasons. Perhaps it was knowing that he would want to know the outcome of the Xindi crisis - maybe it was knowing that it would be harder if they were both awkward around each other. Maybe she just missed him.

Loathe as she was to admit it, that was the logical answer.

T'Pol sat at her desk, looking out the window. When she heard the knock, she turned toward the door, but didn't stand.]

Come in.

[Trip stepped into her room, folding his arms behind his back because it was just comfortable to hide behind professionalism right now. It wasn't like they were close friends. Or, he kinda thought they were getting closer, maybe getting to know each other better only to find out that she'd been lying to him the whole time he'd been here.

Kinda suggested that they weren't friends.]

"I don't wanna know what happens." [He waited until the door fully shut behind him to say that.]

[She stood when the door closed and he spoke, arms at her sides for at least a few moments before she mimicked him and locked her hands behind her.] I had no intention of telling you.

"I can see that." [Trip answered, maybe rather harshly.] "I just don't understand why you didn't tell me you were from a different year in the first place. It's not like I didn't notice that something was different about you."

Happens all the time. It's not like it's a big deal or anything.

I think it depends on what happens during the time between your two points. People shouldn't know too much about their own futures.

No but they should be able to trust the people they work with, don't you think?

Yes of course they should.

Yeah I think so too. [Goddamn Vulcans.]

So I hear that people are getting sick. Do you need any help down there?

Yeah, you tell them. What if you like, killed their kid or got married to them or something? It could be really awkward.

[Lol Hayley. Your irony slays me.]

I really don't think anything like that will be a problem in the situation I'm talking about.

You never know until you talk to them.
