Susan is not here as much as she once was.

This is right, and proper, and as it should be.

Lucy's still impatient, a bit, for her to get back.

She walks in a few minutes later, her hands full of shopping bags and her cheeks pink and rosy from being out of doors.

"Hello, my dear! I brought you some surprises."

[called_lioness]

"I've a surprise for you, too," she grins, "though a different sort, I think. What did you bring, then?"

[once_a_queen]

"I stopped at the bakery, and I saw some darling blouses on sale, in colors that would look better on you than on I," she says, unpacking the bags and setting eveything on the table.

"What's your surprise?"

"Guess," she says calmly, and rests her chin on her hand.

She's grinning.
