The hike to the castle is easy enough. It would likely have taken less time if Mary hadn’t been curious and wanted to stop and look at some of the older trees

"I have never slept outside before," Mary says, with wide eyes, and looks around at the covering of the trees.

"Except sometimes by accident - when I was tired and it was sunny. But not at night."

She sounds excited.

"Never? Then it's well that we are. We'll roast apples over the fire, if you like."

Mary gives her an odd look.

". . . why would you roast apples?"

[called_lioness]

"Because they're rather good," she laughs. "Especially with cheese or meat. Or brown sugar. Which we might have."

She knows they have it.
