This movie broke my cold black heart. You must watch

The movie chronicles three astonishing, life-changing years for a young woman. The true story was told in a blog written by a Japanese woman under the pseudonym 'Mika' about the relationship she had with a young man she called 'Hiro' when she was younger -- the story she told her posts about her past, Hiro, their love, shocked and captivated the entire country. It was later adapted into a novel and now a movie. The storyline isn't fresh or original because it's true, but what makes the movie so amazing is the incredible performances by the young leads, particularly the actor who portrays Hiro (I don't want to spoil it, but he has one particular scene in the last 1/3 of the movie that completely broke me, it was so devastating -- five minutes of acting that almost knocked me out of my chair with the emotional resonance and honesty he was able to put forth), and how the film manages to be deeply romantic and yet restrained. It could have been extremely cheesy, and would have been in the hands of Hollywood, but instead it's so affecting and wrenchingly beautiful. There are all these quiet moments, little details in the film that elevate the whole to something so much more than a teenage romance flick. I can't recommend it highly enough.
