"Love was kind, for a time,
Now just aches and it makes me blind.
This mirror holds my eyes too bright,
I can't see the others in my life.
Were we too young? & heads too strong?
To bear the weight of these lover's eyes.
'Cause I feel numb, beneath your tongue
Neath the curse of these lover's eyes.
But do not ask the price I pay, I must live with my quiet rage,
Tame the ghosts in my head that run wild & wish me dead.
Should you shake my ash to the wind,
Lord, forget all of my sins.
Oh, let me die where I lie neath the curse of my lover's eyes.
There's no drink nor drug I tried to rid the curse of these lover's eyes."
- Mumford & Sons "Lover's Eyes"
Body and Appearance
1. Describe the character's height and build. Is he heavyset, thin, short, rangy? Chris is a well muscled man who is around six foot one or two. He's thin about the waist but bulked up around the shoulders and legs. The PB used, Mister Micheal Fassbender has under gone some extreme body changes throughout his career (i.e.
Hunger &
300) but I imagine Christoph being somewhere around what he looks like in
Centurion.
2. How old is he? Thirty-one but Christoph likes to think he's about ten years younger.
3. Describe his posture. Does he carry himself well or does he slouch? Being raised by a Catholic Priest and spending most of his youth helps create good posture. He hardly ever slouches. Most of the time he keeps himself at full height so people get the impression he's a fighter and won't take crap from anyone, and also to show he's very proper.
4. How is his health? Is he fit or out of shape? Any illnesses or conditions? Any physical disabilities? Chris is a health nut. Even if he weren't a boxer he still would be. He goes on two runs every day (one in the morning and one after 'work'). Plus his job is to train so he's in amazing physical condition. However, he does have a busted knee from a bad match as well as some liver and heart damage form drug and alcohol abuse.
5. How does he move? Is he clumsy, graceful, tense, fluid? Christoph moves like the man he is. Fluid and graceful in everything he does. His body is his tool and he uses it very well.
6. How attractive is this character physically? How does he perceive himself in the mirror? Christoph is
extremely attractive (he's Micheal fucking Fassbender, come on!). Chris is an attractive male if he's that persons type. Well muscled, well groomed, and such. Chris however fells there is always room for improvement on his body, maybe even to the point where it's not a healthy thing. He's always looking to make himself look better physically.
7. Describe his complexion. Dark, light, clear, scarred? He's slightly darker than the average Irish boy since he lives in sunny California and runs out in the sun often but he burns more then he tans. His skin is clear asides from a few adorable freckles and his skin is just naturally really smooth, even his scars. Now his scares are a...thing of their own. Currently he has two tattoos. The first one he has is on his right upper-inner arm. It's simple black ink that says "In Memory of Christopher MacManus" with the dates from birth to death. The second tattoo is just as simple. It's over his heart and it's the outline of a tiny heart in pink and inside in light blue is the name "Luka". In addition to the tattoos he has a large amount of scars. On the back of his left calf he has a scar from being shot. On the right side of his face, just over his lip he has a small scar from where he was hit in an early match and his tooth went through the skin. Just next to his right hip he has a scar from a knife wound.
note for specific verse: In the verse Sounds of Silence Chris' whole body is now covered in scars of all kinds, mostly burn scaring. In Sam/Chris he just got the head of his male member pierced and plans on getting his tongue pierced soon.
8. Describe his hair: color, texture, style. Thin, soft and GINGER. His hair is the perfect shade of ginger. Not to red that people mistake it for red and not to light that people think he's blonde. No, Christoph has perfect Irish ginger hair.
9. What color are his eyes?
Steel blue. Even less blue and more just a steel colour. (Micheal's eyes are the hardest to figure out.)
10. Does the character have any other noteworthy features? He has a very large and shark-like smile as well as big feet. And we all know what comes along with big feet.
11. What are his chief tension centers? Knees, thighs and lower back. Sometimes in the hands.
12. What is the character's wardrobe like? Casual, dressy, utilitarian? Bright colors, pastels, neutrals? Is it varied, or does he have six of the same suit? Chris has a very...not brilliant wardrobe. He has a lot of clothes, just from over the years. Most of it is t-shirts, athletic shorts and jeans. He has a few suits he has to have and even with suits he normally always has on Chuck Taylor's. He's very good a matching though and all his clothes normally go together. Most of his clothes are darker in colour but still he has a few light and brights hanging around.
13. Do his clothes fit well? Does he seem comfortable in them? For the most part. Although Chris has a knack for getting clothes a wee bit bigger then they should.
14. Does he dress the same on the job as he does in his free time? If not, what are the differences? For his job he normally is in just shorts and boxing shoes. So it just depends on the day.
15. You knew it was coming: Boxers, briefs or commando? Boxers all the way.
Speech
1. What does this character's voice sound like? High-pitched, deep, hoarse? Christoph's voice is low and and deep. A bit raspy. Very even, it doesn't get much higher then what it is. However he can sing pretty good with that voice (trust me, just google it).
2. How does he normally speak? Loud, soft, fast, evenly? Does he talk easily, or does he hesitate? Christopher's voice is actually pretty soft and even. He speaks fast but that's just his accent. Sometimes he trips over his words but normally it's even and smooth.
3. Does the character have a distinct accent or dialect? Any individual quirks of pronunciation? Any, like, you know, verbal tics?
He has a very distinct accent, Irish, and a very, very distinct dialect, Belfast. His accent is extremely thick and hard to understand at times, although years in America have watered it down a bit. Sometimes he's say 'aye' instead of 'yes'. Other than the normal Belfast accent he has no difference in speaking.
4. What language/s does he speak, and with how much fluency? English and Irish Gaelic are the only two languages he is totally fluent in, and Irish Gaelic is a bit rusty. He doesn't speak Irish Gaelic as a daily language unless he's speaking to another native. He has some pretty good skill in Latin because he grew up in a Church and even a little Italian because the man who raised him knows it.
5. Does he switch languages or dialects in certain situations? He does his best to tone down his dialect even when he's speaking to other Irish folks that aren't from Belfast. He knows how hard it is to understand the accent.
6. Is he a good impromptu speaker, or does he have to think about his words? Impromptu speaker by far. If he is given time to think it over then he thinks about it to much. He's also a bit impulsive with his words, and sometimes doesn't think some things through.
7. Is he eloquent or inarticulate? Under what circumstances might this change? He's a little bit of both. He grew up having to be able to speak clearly and well but when he gets excited and such it becomes harder to understand him.
Mental and Emotional
1. How intelligent is this character? Is he book-smart or street-smart? More street-smart then anything. Or boxing smart. He was a C-D student in school and even though he gets ideas down pretty well and has a good vocabulary he's not really book-smart. He does try to be book-smart a little bit.
2. Does he think on his feet, or does he need time to deliberate? Christoph is the master of thinking on his feet and thinking well. He can take the time to make a plan but if it goes bad he's on the ball with making a new plan as it happens. That's one of the reasons he's such a good boxer.
3. Describe the character's thought process. Is he more logical, or more intuitive? Idealistic or practical? Chris is a little bit of it all. If he gets a feeling that doing one thing is right then he'll reason a bit before he does it. He's idealistic more then not, but life has grounded him and made him a little less idealistic.
4. What kind of education has the character had? He has a very good education. Catholic school all the way through. Not just any Catholic school either but a good one. Father Tyler made sure that he got the best education he could.
5. What are his areas of expertise? What, if anything, is he interested in learning more about? Boxing, chess, football (not the American kind), rugby and oddly enough tennis. Christoph is very into sports because that's about the only thing he's good at. He's also very good with the Catholic region. Also an expert in Irish and German beer and drinks.
6. Is he an introvert or an extrovert? Mostly extrovert but also a bit o introvert. Chris loves being with people, helping people and talking and all that but he also couldn't go without having his time by himself. That's one of the reasons he goes on two runs a day, just to give himself his own time away from the madness and life of everything else.
7. Describe the character's temperament. Is he even-tempered or does he have mood swings? Cheerful or melancholy? Laid-back or driven? It's hard to describe how Christoph is. He doesn't have mood-swings unless someone provokes them and he doesn't have much of a temper unless it's one of those days. For the most part he's a cheerful happy-go-lucky Irish boy who does his best to get through each day with a level-head and lots of laughs.
8. How does he respond to new people or situations? Is he suspicious, relaxed, timid, enthusiastic? He loves meeting new people and in those moments he's very relaxed and enthusiastic but mostly he's charming. He will try to charm the pants off of anyone.
9. Is he more likely to act, or to react? A wee bit of both, but mostly react.
10. Which is his default: fight or flight? Surprisingly it's flight. Someone comes up to him in a pub and tries to start a fight with him Chris will do anything to keep from having that fight. He's not a coward by any means he just prefers not to stoop to violence and he doesn't want it done to him. So he'd rather run.
11. Describe the character's sense of humor. Does he appreciate jokes? Puns? Gallows humor? Bathroom humor? Pranks? One thing Chris loves doing is laughing. He'll do anything to get a laugh from people. For the most part he has a charming sense of humor and likes pulling little harmless pranks. Unfortunately there is still a little twelve year old in him and bathroom humor does make him laugh. If he could grasp what a pun is he'd find that funny as well. Chris is easily amused.
12. Does the character have any diagnosable mental disorders? If yes, how does he deal with them? He most likely has manic depression/bipolar disorder type I, he definitely has PTSD from his father's shooting and his lover's stabbing. He most likely has some sort of anxiety disorder. Chris just does his best to work around these things.
13. What moments in this character's life have defined him as a person? His father's death,
the foal, falling in love with Luka and then Luka's death, and over coming his drug addiction. Slightly less important moments that helped shape him were busting his knee, the first match he won, his return to boxing after Luka died, and his mother's death.
14. What does he fear? Loosing someone he loves again, loosing his faith and on some level letting others into his life.
15. What are his hopes or aspirations? To win the Welterweight title, and to have a good life after that. House, kids, love...Chris just wants to be loved.
16. What is something he doesn't want anyone to find out about him? How scared he is of the world, and how insecure he is with himself.
Relationships
1. Describe this character's relationship with his parents. Christoph never got to have a relationship with his mother since she died when he was very young. However, during the years when his father was alive they had a great and healthy relationship. For the young Christoph his dad, Christopher was his best friend as well as his father. Christopher's death rocked Christoph a lot even at his early age. If their relationship was allowed to grow more with Chris' age then it would have no doubt but strong and loving.
2. Does the character have any siblings? What is/was their relationship like? Christoph is an only child as far as he knows.
3. Are there other blood relatives to whom he is close? Are there ones he can't stand? Christoph's father was an orphan that came from a long line of family but unfortunately Christoph is the last of that line of MacManus. His mother's family does not like Chris and is jealous that the boy was taken in by a priest instead of them. Most of the relatives (i.e. Grandmother, grandfather, aunts and uncles) blame Christoph for his mother's death in some way.
4. Are there other, unrelated people whom he considers part of his family? What are his relationships with them? Father Tyler Braddock tops the list. Before Tyler was even his adoptive father he was Christoph's priest and uncle. Since the adoption Tyler and Chris have been as close as Chris had been with his father.
5. Who is/was the character's best friend? How did they meet? Tyler would be his best friend now but before Luka's death it would have been him. He met Luka after stumbling out of a fight. They fell in love and Christoph become dependent on Luka for a lot of things. They were best friends but even more then that they were lovers.
6. Does he have other close friends? Not much. He has friends and people he knows but Christoph has pushed himself away from others in an attempt to keep from getting hurt.
7. Does he make friends easily, or does he have trouble getting along with people? Gets along perfectly well with everyone pretty much. Is good at making friends now, back in high school he had a lot of trouble with it. He just doesn't make close friends.
8. Which does he consider more important: family or friends? Both. Chris knows you need both to live well.
9. Is the character single, married, divorced, widowed? Has he been married more than once? Christoph was suppose to marry Luka Delaware but a week before he planed to propose Luka was killed. He would say he was widowed for the most part.
check in other verses. 10. Is he currently in a romantic relationship with someone other than a spouse? Christoph would never cheat on anyone he is in a relationship with. He maybe gay but he is a very strict Catholic in that manner at the least.
11. Who was his first crush? Who is his latest? His first crush was a boy named Celeb Mathews during high school. When he tried to talk to Celeb about it Celeb had the football team beat him up and tell everyone in the school that he's a 'dirty queer'. Needless to say he made Tyler transfer him to a different school. As for his latest crush see his
relationship page.
12. What does he look for in a romantic partner? Someone who is smart, kind, easy to get along with. Open minded and likes to laugh. He also likes guys either the same size as himself or smaller. Christoph also needs someone to take care of him.
13. Does the character have children? Grandchildren? If yes, how does he relate to them? If no, does he want any?Christoph just found out that he as an eighteen year old daughter. Her name is Kennedy Flann (
suchaluckykid) but she goes by the nickname Ned. He likes her a lot and is glad she finally got to him. She's a lot like Chris so it's easy for them to hang around each other.
14. Does he have any rivals or enemies? Other then those he goes against in boxing he doesn't.
15. What is the character's sexual orientation? Where does he fall on the
Kinsey scale? He is homosexual and finally open and able to deal with that. On the Kinsey scale he's something like an 5.5. Sexually he will only be with a man, only have a relationship with a man but he can see that there are some women who are attractive. Actually more like a 5.8 really.
16. How does he feel about sex? How important is it to him? Sex is very important to Christoph. Not in a weird sex addict kind of way. Just for him it's his way of showing love physically and since he's best in the physical ways of life it's a good way for him to show his love. If he feel in love with a man who didn't want sex or was afraid of it, Christoph could cope. Because one thing that is more important then sex is love.
17. What are his turn-ons? Turn-offs? Weird bedroom habits? For turn-ons...he's a little kinky. Firstly he likes being on bottom and he likes things to be taken out of his hands. He's into BDSM but only with people he truely trusts to do the right thing. He doesn't need it all the time just whenever stress over comes him or he thinks about things to much. Luka and him had a BDSM based relationship. Luka was almost always in control of him. Maybe it's because he's weak, Christoph doesn't know. He does however enjoy normal sex as well. In normal sex he prefers to be on top and taking the lead. Turn-offs for him are hard to find. Distrust, doing thing without being warned first. Such as that.
Beliefs
1. Do you know your character's astrological (
zodiac of
choice) sign? How well does he fit type? Chris is a Libra, but he doesn't put much stock into that sort of thing so he has no idea if he fits in as a Libra or not.
2. Is this character religious, spiritual, both, or neither? How important are these elements in his life?Very religious but in a mild sort of way. He never pushes his views on another person or even really bring his religion up. It's just something that he keeps close to him and believe very firmly in. He always has his St. Sebastian medal on and before each match he prays with Tyler his trainer.
3. Does this character have a personal code of morals or ethics? If so, how did that begin? What would it take to compromise it? In a way. Chris has the basic moral code of any Northern Irish Catholic boy however he does not believe in violence to solve problems, or really violence at all or harming another human being. This is odd considering that he's a professional boxer but in the ring he knows its just a sport and would never cause serious deathly harm to the other fighter.
4. How does he regard beliefs that differ from his? Is he tolerant, intolerant, curious, indifferent? He is very tolerant of other beliefs other then Protestant, well more Protestant extremist. Chris is very open to new ideas but it's very unlikely he'd ever change his religion, faith or beliefs.
5. What prejudices does he hold? Are they irrational or does he have a good reason for them? For the most part Chris is prejudice free, he's a gay Catholic boxer he can't hold much against anyone in way of being prejudice. He does hold a prejudice against Protestants because of his childhood and being raised to be prejudice against them. There are a few that just come with being human, the small prejudices but he would never bring them up or use them against another person.
Daily Life
1. What is the character's financial situation? Is he rich, poor, comfortable, in debt? He is very stable. Being a professional athlete helps a lot. As a child, even after being adopted by Tyler, he was never well off.
2. What is his social status? Has this changed over time, and if so, how has the change affected him? He has changed, a few time. When he lived in Northern Ireland with his father his status was elevated in the community he lived in because of his father's work with the IRA and the like. In other communities at that age he was looked down at for being Catholic and treated badly for it. Once in America it didn't seem to matter that he's Catholic but because he wasn't well off money wise and because people liked to tease him for his thick and hard to understand accent his social statues was very low. Now his statues is very high since he's a contender for the World Welterweight Champion. The changes in class and social standing hasn't changed him all that much over the years.
3. Where does he live? House, apartment, trailer? Is his home his castle or just a place to crash? What condition is it in? Does he share it with others?Chris lives in San Francisco, California in the apartment that his adoptive Father and he stayed in when they first moved to America. He now has bought the top two levels of that apartment building and made it so that he and Tyler can have space for each other. The apartment is always well cleaned and stocked well. He does have his 'roommate' Tyler.
4. Besides the basic necessities, what does he spend his money on? Mostly fun things or whatever he wants at a given time. He likes to buy different types of Irish Whiskey as well as necessities for the bedroom. All in all he doesn't spend that much per year on just things.
5. What does he do for a living? Is he good at it? Does he enjoy it, or would he rather be doing something else? Chris does the one thing in the world that he is totally and completely good at and on top of that he loves it with all his heart. He's a professional boxer and he wants to do nothing else but box.
6. What are his interests or hobbies? How does he spend his free time? He is interested, of course, in boxing and other sports. He spends most of his time training if not training then watching sports or going into the local pub.
7. What are his eating habits? Does he skip meals, eat out, drink alcohol, avoid certain foods? He keeps on a strict diet for his job and never skips a meal unless he's sick. He does drink alcohol, a lot but he's not by any means an alcoholic.
