If you're going to bitch about recent changes (which many of you seem to be doing), please get your facts straight. They are not "banning/deleting all basic accounts" - they're ceasing the creation of new basic accounts. A lot of people are bitching that this means no new communities without advertisements or having to pay

At least in the first translation I read, I thought he was being truly obnoxious. I think it's important for people not to mix up his obnoxiousness with the substance of the actual changes, but being angry at him (at least if the initial translation was accurate) was not unreasonable, imho.

I agree that how he said what he said was probably not the best way to do so, but I keep coming across people going "OMG HE IS 100% WRONG ABOUT EVERYTHING HE SAYS!" and that's just not true, I don't think. It's one thing to say he's a tactless idiot (which I agree with) and another to say he's a completely incorrect tactless idiot (which I disagree with.)

No, they're bothering people because he's an asshole.

However, I completely AGREE that the company has every right to sell ad space to make revenue and keep itself in business. That's just a fact of life.

However, he's a moron if he doesn't think that his customer base BOYCOTTING his business can destroy it. That's just dumb. That's EXACTLY how businesses are destroyed - they don't EXIST without customers. Obviously this man really is Russian, and has no concept of supply/demand or other pesky rules of capitalist ventures. What an idiot. Being rude about it - well - just stupid.

The changes themselves are not offensive - the idea that this idiot thinks he can stay in business DESPITE pissing off his customers is just ... well, mind-bogglingly stupid.

Jeez.

If it were juse because he's an idiot, that'd be one thing, but all the people getting bent out of shape because they said he's completely lied to the press, well, that's something else entirely. It's one thing to say "he needs lessons on how to relate to people" and another to say "he has absolutely no correct facts in anything he says ever" (which is a bit of an exaggeration, but I have read comments/posts along those lines).

I don't think this particular boycottt will destroy this business at all, which I think is the point he was trying to make. Again, I think he just phrased that particular statement very, very poorly.

No, he doesn't JUST need lessons on how to relate to people, he needs to know what drives a businees, and that's customers. Somewhere down the line, he's going to have to realize that insulting his customers and telling them their powerless is going to drive away customers and he'll ultimately be the cause of his own business's demise. I know the guy is in a completely different culture, and has no idea of what free market competition is - but he needs to realize he isn't the only guy in town with the toilet paper. Being obstinately RUDE in a free market economy is just stupid. Let's face it - if you have two grocery stores to chose from, do you go to the one where the manager screams at you for complaining they don't have your brand - that you'll buy his toilet paper and like it! Or will you go to the one where the manager apologies and attempts to get your brand - even if he charges more

That's the thing that gets me the most about all this, really. If you have such a problem with it and every other little thing they do, leave. No, I'm not happy with everything they've done in the past and yes, I've been very, very close to leaving a few times due to my worry about what they've done, but I'm not bitching about every little policy issue becasue ultimately, I'm going to stay here 'cos this is where the portion of Libsdom I like is and blowing a lot of hot air is only going to irritate people (as has been demonstrated by his statement.)

agreed! its just stupid really. However I have a feeling that as libsdom is small, I think if something that was really annoying and worth leaving over happened it wouldn't be that hard to up and move together, if thats what people wanted to do.
