I'm at Supercomputing 2009 this week. The conference this year has three thrust areas: sustainability/energy efficiency, bio-computing, and "3D Internet", whatever that is. (I do graphics and visualization research. You'd think I would have heard of it.) Each day we have a different keynote speaker. Tomorrow morning is Leroy Hood, a ( Read more... )

But let me play devil's advocate for a moment. I can actually envision some very big ticket things to do with 3D on the web.

For one, you may not want to buy cars or houses every day, but a lot of people buy a lot of clothing online. One of the big problems there is knowing how the clothes will fit, how they will hang, and so on -- basically, how they will make me look, ( ... )
