I agree with you that she may not be leaving permanently. They paid the grant only for a year for a reason, but it could be extended apparently.
At almost 41, a pregnancy would be considered high risk, so it would make sense she might want to take time off if she wants to start a family. She may have been offered a limited run on Broadway too, something she couldn't pass up or maybe she just wants some down time. I gather she went straight from Broadway to Grey's, so she has been working steadily for a long time, which is more than what most actors do.
Well honestly I don't think she has a problem being steadily working, because I remember her always being grateful to be working when her many actor friends are not employed. So just for the sake of change I don't think she would have left, specially when there are still so much left for her character Callie to deliver.
I don't know the reason honestly, I'm just guessing that may be it's about time for her to start the baby process, but I can be wrong. She might have different life plans & expectations.
Though one thing I strongly feel is it is't the end of Callie Torres...it isn't the end of Calzona. I believe so, I want to.

I so hope that is true!!! You do raise very valid points. None of the cast have posted any farewells or best wishes to her, so perhaps it is just time off.

I'm jumping on board with your train of thought! It makes me a lot happier to view it as a break because in my mind Calzona are MFEO and I want to keep the faith! Also, Sara/Callie deserves a better exit at the end of the series.
You make valid points. And yeah if she was leaving for good where is all the tweets from the other cast members. Is that not abit strange that noone she worked with has said good luck we will miss you ect. Surely you would expect these types of tweets especially since she was on the show so long.
Im leaning towards she either just wanted some down time or shes consentrating on something personal to her like her lgbtq advocacy. Even something in her personal life. But i dont beleive that not one member of the cast have said nothimg congratutory to her. They have remained quiet. Its probably wishful thinking on her part and she reqly is gone amd all the tweets wi come in soon

See even if later sometime the casts give some good luck tweets that doesn't necessarily mean she has left Grey's permanently, until someone clears that it's actually permanent, maybe something they already knew (I remember during Sandra's departure Sara said Sandra individually informed her about leaving the show/ Sandra in her interview said she doesn't have more to deliver as Cristina Yang...those messages/interviews gives that permanent departure feeling)...even Shonda said that she is "excited for what the future holds for Sara" which is kinda good luck message, but that is more like good luck for the time off & whatever you will do during then.
I don't think Shonda ever mentioned anything that hopeful for any other big characters of Grey's after their departure, what she did for Sara. She said "Sara will always have a home in Shondaland" which doesn't have any bitterness in it but plain hope. So yes I still strongly believe that Sara will be back & Calzona will reunite :)

You always know how ro make people feel better. But i pointed out the tweets earlier that they were not necesarry goodbye ones. They were different for eveeyone else
I think she might return in later Season 13 for a guest appearance or two but she's gone. Shonda confirmed it and so did Sara. Its just semantics the way it was described. Just like when Sandra left she said she'd be back for the finale.
Callie didn't choose Arizona, it's fairly obvious, she left the show, I'm not sure how much clearer it could ever get Lol

Sandra was always very clear about her departure, she said very clearly that season 10 was her last, she said in an interview that she would love to return for the finale but never said she is taking a time off, that's the difference. We have seen so many Callie-centric episode before, and if Sara is leaving for good wouldn't Shonda give Callie ateast a good exit!
Yes it apparently looks like Callie didn't choose Arizona but Callie was never been physically distant from Arizona's life for too long since they met (Even Africa was short). So if she goes to New York, she actually might get to see what she really wants in her life (Like Arizona came back from Africa after her realization). I said this before as well, if Calzona is finally getting back, Callie should CHOOSE her consciously this time & not forced by some legal custody. That is the only & best reconciliation for them. So we might get to see that finally & evantually!

Well, they did leave the Callie & Arizona storyline in such a way that a reconciliation arc could happen. I agree, we will see Callie Torres again. I just won't be a weekly viewer in the interim.

We cant get that because shes left the show.....its semantics the way its worded is all.
If she ever came back it would be years down the track in Greys time. It would never work. She didnt choose Arizona...just what i said would happen did.
Just what we needed I like your optimism. I thought to myself it was a "I am taking a break tweet". If she has left for good then a really rubbish exit, no interview, goodbyes or anything. I am still going with the contract negotiations falling through and it was a last minute decision. As Arnie says "she will be back". - seriously let's hope so. - maybe season 14. - what a cliffhanger that would be for her to come back completely unexpectedly.

I don't think it will be that unexpected...I for example will always expect her to be back....sooner or later...anyway we can see the casts name for the episodes & Sara's name won't go unnoticed, when she will be back I guess.
But I believe she will back anyway...I have my reasons to believe so :)
