the face itself is of Hanyya, the japanese demon of scorned women. the mythos goes that a woman severed scorned or insulted will become a demon that devours the soul of men. ironicly, men are often the one portraying hanyya in plays and the like, to honor the era of kabuki, when all roles, female included, were played by men.
