New ArtFire Collection!

I've been thinking about a few things regarding my art bizniss, Alternate Visions.  First off, a name change!  What do you think of "Ethereal Arts?" The ".com" is available, and it will easily encompass my crafting, vocal and acting work. :)  Plus it illustrates the mystical bent most of my work takes (light as well as dark) and doesn't just ( Read more... )

Glad to see you back here! As to which service to use... which one makes you more money? I know a lot of my friend are pretty pissed off at Art Fire right now, so for low volume sellers, I still think Etsy is the best bet. But each person is different. Look at your income from each site, and go with the one that makes you the most money.

Also, I do like the name Ethereal Arts.

given all the lengths AF is going to to support their artists & promote their workWhile I'm glad that you're having enough success with AF to consider leaving Etsy entirely, I have to question how wonderful AF is for sellers when they yank away any ability to sell whatsoever for anyone not willing to give them $12 a month regardless of sales volume. They could have done per-listing fees, and then offer a per-month pro account to anyone who wanted it, but it's pretty obvious they're favoring only those who have managed to get massive sales. Additionally, they're going to start opening up more to resellers, which means you're going to have more competition from Chinese factories "reselling" cheap slave-labor products (and, for that matter, cheaply made belly-dance items made in India and elsewhere), as well as more "pros" who don't make their own offerings. As to AF working harder to get things seen, when I did Google Shopping searches, I had Etsy and AF listings show up at about the same places, so AF's Google Base thing didn't really ( ... )

Wow.. that's really, really good to know. Thank you so much for the reply. I knew that AF was going all Pro., but I didn't attach the preference to high-volume sellers to that action. I'd just thought it was their way of making money in lieu of Etsy's per-item and final price cut policy. Plus I had no idea about their potential re-selling allowance. That to me is NOT cool. I still have horrors of crafters I knew, buying crap at cheap mall stores and re-carding it to sell as if they'd made it at crafting events & vending tables. Unless it's clearly marked as such, I deeeeply disagree w/such policies, and view them as fraud. It will SUCK if AF begins allowing such things. Frankly, I'm still not sure how and why Etsy does, either. Unless vintage stuff is refurbished or restored, I just don't get how old things can sit w/the ranks of the handmade.

But hey, maybe that's just me. ;)
