...well, gosh.

Dec 02, 2011 22:17

I am v. happy and somewhat surprised to say that my viva this afternoon went swimmingly, and that the examiners are going to recommend to the examination board that I be allowed to supplicate for a Doctorate.

Which means I passed, basically ^____^

Right, I think that's probably about as many degrees as I can reasonably accumulate for a while.

real life, oxford, well gosh

Oh, gosh! Félicitations! This is EXCITING and marvellous, not that I am AT ALL SURPRISED. ^__________^ *waves pom poms* Oh, just, golly. You are now officially Very Very Learned Indeed! (Well, you were already, but now you're allowed a title.) Is your address still the same? /unsubtle But come on, it is your doctorate, you can't escape cards!

Thank you! I still keep expecting the other shoe to drop and for people to realise that I STILL DON'T REALLY KNOW WHAT I'M DOING AHAHAHAHA, but apparently I've got away with it again :D

Yes, my address is still the same ^_^ I didn't quite like to poke my head above the parapet on your Christmas card posts because...well, you know that feeling before doing something stressful of 'must not acknowledge that there is a world after stressful thing, it would be TEMPTING FATE'? Yeaaah.

Nuuu! They have recognised your essential shininess, THIS IS TRUTH. :D

I know that feeling! Generally I crack and wail to lj regardless (and then feel I have TEMPTED FATE indeed) but you have a lot more restraint. Now, though, you are going to get two cards, because people who pass their vivas in December get two cards. 'Tis a universal rule. *decisive nod*

(I told my parents you'd passed and they are congratulatory! ^____^)

Congratulations! I am going to address my Christmas card to Dr Jane now you know. I am so happy for you! I knew you would be fine. I hope you are getting gin-sozzled to celebrate. What level of mini celebration are we at now? WHoooooooooooo x infinity.

:D :D :D Thank you!!! This time I elected to get mead-sozzled, having saved the last bottle from my order from the winery of crazy. Which was at least decidedly less pathetic than the horrible bottle of college house white which I was reduced to after handing in my masters thesis, owing to the fact that it was the only alcohol I had left in my room. Which was rendered even more pathetic by the fact there there wasn't a corkscrew anywhere in the shared house, so I had to sit determinedly attacking the cork with my penknife for half an hour, patiently whittling away sections of cork to get to the BLESSED ALCOHOL.

This was decidedly less sad than that.

I think this might be the fullest level of mini celebration, with possibly an extra smaller coda-celebration when I actually submit my Bodleian copy. YAYNESS.

I will never get out of my head the image of tiny ma student you hunched over a bottle of cheap white wine with a look of grim determination to be drunk.

When I am back we will drink to your success, this will be a thing that happens.

Thank you! (By the way, I am sorry if I alarmed you with my sudden awareness of your research topic when our paths crossed outside RT's door a while back. I suddenly realised who you were and flapped a bit. Real-life etiquette somehow fails when it comes to negotiating online acquaintance in person...)
