I've been contemplating recently whether I'm a Christian, and what that means. I know that the rituals, songs, and prayers in my heart are Christian, specifically Roman Catholic. I gave them up for politics, not "mere" politics, but a fundamental, deep down knowledge that I could no longer support this institution by halves. I basically do not ( Read more... )

Boy can I identify with this post. I very much miss the ritual of mass. I can't abide by the church either. I wish there was a way to balance the two.

I would encourage you to check out the Independent Catholic Movement, , and specifically in New York Bishop +Thomas Langley. http://gnosticlightandlife.blogspot.com/

The some of the Gnostic Movements keep much of the ritual and pageantry of the RCC, with a new emphasis on the feminine in person of the Holy Spirit.

There is also the Liberal Catholic Church. I was very pleased with their service when I attended in Louisiana, during a Christmas Service.

I was raised Roman Catholic, much as you are, but now find my home in the Apostolic Johannite Church, where I was recently ordained. We're very Catholic in flavor, although we emphasize different societal behaviors than the direct descendant of the Medieval Church. We have a very Roman feel to the Eucharist, while drawing in Buddhist and Western Mystery Tradition elements. My Roman Catholic Mother in law enjoyed the service, at least ( ... )
