You Have Got To Be Kidding Me--Allies Pre-Rant

So I was doing what I usually do when I start reading a new SW book, glossing over chapters to see when Jaina and Jag show up next (I'm about 3 chapters right now on my reading).  And what do I find, the next time they show up the author makes a point at the start of their conversation to make note of Jaina's engagement ring.  I find this odd since no one in the GFFA is mentioned to have a ring of any sort relating to their marital status.  So why does one appear now?  SO SHE CAN LEAVE IT BEHIND ON JAG'S DESK WHEN SHE WALKS OUT.  Because yes, they have to pick their duties over their relationship once again AND SHE BREAKS OFF THEIR RELATIONSHIP.  And what's worse?  HE DOESN'T GO AND FIGHT FOR HER.
