This isn't a date..

Travis had to keep reminding himself as he got ready that afternoon. For the first time in a long time, he was all nerves. Natalie had a way of bringing him back to his awkward school boy days when he didn't know exactly how to talk to girls with out sticking his foot in his mouth. She reminded him of his childhood….and glory days….and a series of 'firsts.'

He took the stairs, giving himself extra time to pep talk himself. This was Natalie. They used to spend hours talking about everything and nothing. He could do this.

Before Travis realized, he was at her front door. And he was knocking...

Though she was expecting it, the knock startled Natalie. She sprung to life, throwing the magazine aside and crossing to the door. One hand on the knob, she paused for a brief moment and reminded herself it was only Travis and then pulled it open.

"Hi," Natalie's smile was far too sweet for her normal personality. Feeling that her face was doing something awkward, she tried to compensate by relaxing her cheeks slightly. The resulting expression may have made it seem like she was waiting for someone else and had been surprised by who was on the other side of the door. "Come in?"

"Oh, yeah! Sure thing," he said, nodding his head one too many times before finally stepping into the flat.

It was strange, even though he had been here countless times with Jake. He'd even been here when Natalie was. But they'd never been here alone together.

He looked around, scratching at the back of his head. It definitely looked like she had straightened up. Maybe because he was coming, or maybe just because.

"How's your weekend been so far?" he asked, not quite making eye contact.

Natalie took far too long to get the door closed properly then spun around to face Travis, who wasn't really looking at her. She ducked her head around, trying to catch his eyes, "I worked all day yesterday, so until now it hasn't been too terribly exciting."

Awkward silence settled in for what seemed longer than a few seconds before Natalie realized she should probably say something else.

"How's your weekend been?"
