As of 2017, I've backed up this journal to callmeonetrack.dreamwidth.org! Still reading and interacting (albeit infrequently) here and will post at both sites, but in case LJ goes down in flames this year, don't want to lose everything. I've also archived several comms there: no_takebacks.dreamwidth.org, pilots_presents.dreamwidth.org, Read more... )

Hey Tara -- it looks like you want this post to be public; just wanted to give you a heads up that it's privacy locked at the moment. *hugs*

I don't understand why Virtue/Moir got scored so low last night. But I hope they win tonight.

I don't either. It doesn't make any sense. I think even if there wasn't outright fixing happening with the Russians and Americans, there's definitely been a marked trend over the past few years where they've been getting underscored at all the big competitions and Davis/White have been getting overscored IMO. They technically execute all the moves but they don't make magic the way V/M does. I don't understand it.

I don't get it. The other team has the technical stuff down but I don't see any magic. I missed Virtue/Moir's performances both nights, but caught the other teams both nights. They always skate last. I noticed with the pairs skating that the judges leave room for those who skate last. It doesn't seem fair.

Yes, no magic. V/M have so much emotion and artistry. To me, D/W just execute the moves speedily but somewhat mechanically. There is no soul or personality or flow.

Also, V/M skate on their edges more than their flats, backload their long program to show off their stamina, always have beautiful lines with finished movements and pointed toes, and these things should be seen and valued but with the current system, they don't earn them points
