it occurs to me that every story is -- at the heart -- about someone being careless. a moment's inattention during the dull routine of every day. being too familiar with someone who isn't trustworthy. taking a stupid chance. being in the wrong place at the wrong time.

it may not be the central character who's careless... it may be someone else
