We were actually talking in the VisionsFantastic mod forum about that. Mods over there have noticed it, too. Not just hackers, but the OMG tw33ns who takl liek this!11!!!!! We pretty much came to the same conclusion there - it's people who bored over Christmas break. Oh, and the kids who get new computers for Christmas that feel the need to play with them by annoying the rest of the internet.

I bet it's the combination of what you said, plus the cold weather. They're off in the summer too, but there's more outdoorsy things to keep them off the computer.
