First MacBook Annoyance

So I'm trying to make XP Pro work on a Boot Camp partition on the MacBook Pro. I've downloaded the instructions and have followed them as best I can. The problem is there appears to be a step missing ( Read more... )

Now, I have to preface this with the fact that I have no experience with Boot Camp. My emulation is done through VMWare and Wine when I can get away with it.

This sounds like a boot record issue. The bootcamp partition should be fine, and perhaps the format should be fine, it may be an issue of getting the Master Boot Record in place.

I would try a normal Windows install to the partition that Boot Camp has created and see where you go from there.

I did. I got what is, apparently, a very common disk error and the computer refuses to boot up into Windows to continue the installation.

A colleague says:

I've never had that issue. I always get to pick the partition (which is labeled C:), and then it prompts me to reformat it, and then the install proceeds.

But regarding his comment - a "very common disk error" - I have had a Boot Camp install or two refuse to boot for the second half of the install. I always just try the install over again and it works, though.
