Some thoughts about chickens and eggs

This weekend, I have been thinking (and reading) a lot about the chicken and egg industry. interesting blog touching on many interesting points. I'd also consider the health dangers of egg consumption in three main areas. Fistly they are well known to be carriers of salmonella, though many people are unaware salmonella in low doses can cause various uriniary tract infections. The second is the high level of the heart damaging fat cholesterol, and thirdly there is an increaded cancer risk associated with egg consumption. I'm not aware that any of these is significantly lower from 'free range', although there is an amount of 'health wash' about Omega3 rich eggs. I'd really be interested to know what the relative health risks between modern 'free range' and traditional farmyard style production are, though sadly suspect there is likely to be a derth of research on this topic

Thanks for your comments. Although there were big problems with salmonella in eggs in the 1980s, I was under the impression that things had significantly improved on this front ( ... )
