I can play Kumbaya! OK - so only slowly and with much fumbling between chords, but that's three whole chords I can (almost) play! Hee! So much fun! The fingers hurt like very hurtie things, and the eye looks like an accident in a paint factory, but I can play something that very nearly sounds like an actual song! I LOVES my pretty new guitar ( Read more... )

Cool. So now you can get your kumbayayas out...

Where do you go from here?

HEEEE!!!! I'd forgotten that! Best practice "Seventy-six trombones" next. Or maybe a bit of Stones...

If you can play kumbaya, you can play 'Wild Thing'. It's basically the same chord sequence http://www.skynet.ie/~mel/hobbies/guitar/wildthing.php

:snort:: Practicing "Seventy six bloody trombones" next, eh?

Very cool about getting the chords going for Kumbaya. I remember a year or two ago when hubby was doing the exact same thing - good for you!

Hee hee! I'd forgotten all about Spike and his Kumbayayas until Gillo reminded me! See? I love my new toy so much, it's even driven thoughts of Spike from my head :)

It must all sound very silly to a pro like you, this enthusiasm over one badly played song! Given your experience with your other half, where will I be in a year or two from now? Not still Kumbayaing, I hope!

Not at all! I think it's fantastic that you are doing it, and are so enthusiastic about it - that's terrific! You'll pick up more, and get more facile with it as you go. And no, you'll be doing more than Kumbaya after a year or two, trust me!

Did I tell you that I'm actually teaching band at Eric's school this year? And I have two guitars and a bass guitar in the band.

Is all impressed:) Serious progress already

this guy writes tunes for picking out in tablature, not musical notes, instead 6 lines for 6 strings and numbers for frets, worth keeping a look out for the books maybe?

Oh, I can only do tabs! To be honest, having to read music was what put me off learning an instument as a child. Never got the hang of the stupid dots. Tabulature I find relatively easy and natural, despite its limitations with regard to timing etc. Mind you, I'm still at the very basic stage - I sneaked a look at a later chapter and it gets a lot more complicated! I may stick with my Kumbayayas - don't think I'll be playing Layla for a while :)

Thanks for the link to the folk songs book. Tempting...
