Well, after nearly 14 hr of sleep I'm actually up! Tricky, being the good roommate that she is, woke me up at 10:30 last night worried that I'd be late for work. How lovely to be able to respond 'It's my weekend off!' Finally got out of bed at 5am and went out for coffee and donuts. I think I shall make it a tradition: Coffee and Donuts for ( Read more... )

a few years back when my brother was in the hospital for three weeks, the nurses (for the most part) were amaaazing. we sent them a thank you card when we left, but it still felt so terribly inadequate! i wanted to hug them and thank them for my brother's life and send them baked goods or hawaiian vacations! something that properly equaled my gratitude! honestly, as hard as that time was, i will always have fond memories of the nurses at that hospital and how much they helped us all. so many ♥s for them and you. the care you provide can profoundly make alllll the difference. it's a shame some people don't see and respect that. ♥

ion, blue! i like that color, too, and am planning to re-paint my office navy. i never considered it originally because everyone around me hates blue (for whatever reason), so i just skipped over those shades when i was picking out colors. but the thing is, i LIKE blue! and it's your room! do what you want! :D

You've no idea how much those simple notes and cards of thanks mean to us nurses. They get pinned up on bulletin boards and left in the breakrooms where everyone can see them. Even when they're not personal, it's nice to know that someone appreciated our efforts.

BLUE!!! I say you go for it with the navy! Blue can represent so many things: Intelligence, authority, elegance, focus, purity, etc etc... All good things to encourage in your office!

In my family I had several formidable women who were nurses/head nurses and I got a good look at what an important job that truly is. When I spent three days in a Surgery Center in Fresno, I was even more impressed by the nurses who did so much to see to my care. Then there was the nurse who saw me weeping at 3am in bed, she thought I was weeping about my breast cancer,(I was weeping over the recently revealed fact that my mother had stage four cancer and I was terrified for her) and she spent time telling me about how she had recovered from breast cancer herself. Her comfort and care at that moment did a great deal to give me the comfort I needed even if it was on a completely different topic.

It takes a formidable woman/person to be a good nurse. God-complex doctors, stressed out unhappy patients, they take a firm but even hand to deal with. That's something I've had to learn... I don't consider myself formidable, but I've learned to be that way for my patients.

I'm glad someone was there to comfort you when you needed it. Sometimes that's the hardest thing for me simply because I don't have as much time to provide emotional comfort as I would like.

I guess I've been more absent than I realized... I didn't know you were dealing with cancer. Are you doing ok?

It actually was a good weekend... busy!

I finally settled on a color. After bringing home about 7 different samples and realizing that I was essentially bringing home the same color in different intensities, I finally asked a clerk to help. I recommend doing that first, the guy got the color I wanted in one!

Are you on pinterest? I found a lot of interesting ideas for color, home decor, etc there. Happy painting!

BTW, where abouts are the new digs? Eugene still? Closer to my neck of the woods?
