my daughter started kindergarten today.  she's in school officially now.  she's gonna be a superstar i can tell.  but i cringed wheni walked into the school and heard all those kids chanting the pledge of allegiance.  not that i have anything against patriotism, i just think if you are going to pledge that it should mean something, not just ( Read more... )

All I can think about is how if feels like yesterday I saw your pregnant belly at the Vagina monologues or held her up to hear Clann and Drumma. Your a good mom. Being there is more than holding her hand, its being the invisible safety-net, that allows for charter building bruised knees and egos while still being strong enough to catch the mightiest fall. I have always been impressed by your progress and constant parenting style I'm not surprised that you approached her first day with both the yearning to be there and the maturity to give her the space she needs to grow. I can't imagine how it feels, I can only remind you that your right, it is the start of a new chapter not just for her but for you as well. Oh and I totally expect to see first day of school pics up here soon :)

thanks hon. i needed that. i'm always second guessing myself when it comes to parenting stuff, that and being angry with myself for not being there more than i am. i only got two pictures, i didn't want to be in her face with the camera too much, but i got the obligatory one of her by her new cubby and working at a desk. i'll get a lot more at back to school night next week.

Its so strange that they let Pete stay, I know most teachers want the parents to go home and drop in at other times. It kind of disrupts the start of Morgan and the teacher getting to know each other a little bettter.
Did you cry? I know I got all dewy eyed when Emma went to her new preschool. Oh and thats a story for another day. Your girl is growing up, wow where the hell does the time go?

i didn't cry but i was kind of out of it and grumpy at work. grumpy is how i cope sometimes. it might have somethingto do witrh the fact that the kindergarten teacher is a personal friend of his. she's known mo since she was an infant.

Yaaay for Mo! Woo hoo!

Scary stuff, but she's a tough kid, she'll do fine.

The alliegance is a funny thing. It was just written by some guy and look how huge a thing it is now. I think it's a good history and civic duty lesson for kids to learn it but forcing them to say it is another matter. They're supposed to be loyal to a country not a flag.

I always think it's hilarious when people are like, outlaw flag burning! outlaw flag burning!! But the only acceptable way to dispose of an old flag is to burn it, lol. Any other method is considered disrespectful.

the sacred burning of the flag vs the illegal burning of it for protest argument never fails to satisfy my sense of irony.
