I want to do a 5k sometime. A costumed one sounds even better. :3 There's a 5k walk/run for the Chicago animal shelters that I'd like to try at some point too.

Oh! when is it?

I have "complete a 5k" on my New Years resolutions... the only other one I've done out of the 10 so far is get a tattoo, and kept a clean driving record.

I just looked it up and...apparently it already happened? I swear the poster I saw said it was in September. ._. Also, their website sucks, but it's still something I could get behind. At some point I'd like to do a 5k, regardless. I just need to train myself to run.

There are a shit ton of 5k races, Turkey Trots and Shamrock Shuffles are pretty popular around their respective holidays. (The Chicago Shamrock Shuffle is an 8k... and I think their Turkey trot may be the same? but the burbs tend to have 5ks)
The Chicago Area Runners Association has a run search option, so you can look for races wherever or whenever.
