I had only heard the version of this song from Sandanista! The vocals on that one are sung by a kid-sounds like elementary-school age-which brings a whole new level of despair to the song.
This one, though, rocks with righteous anger. As a band, The Clash was a force of nature.
They're right: Career opportunities never knock. You've got to get out there and tackle 'em.
I try to avoid the Sandinista! version, not as a slight to that album (though it is a whole 'nother can of worms), but because I much prefer Strummer's vocal take on it.
