Civility? Hell No!

"It is better to be hated for what you are than to be loved for what you are not."
I decided not to lie down on this one, because, frankly I've fuckin' had it.  I'm doing my damnedest to show people that whatever perception they might have of me, is not fucking true.  A few posts earlier, I asked about possible Midwinter crashspace.  From what I ( Read more... )

Sorry, I know we don't know each other but I saw this on my "friends of friends" page.

Although the tone of the anonymous statement is uncalled for, I do understand what they're trying to say (albeit rudely). If you can't afford to go somewhere, quite simply, don't go, and don't make plans to go.

Many, many, many people in OWBN have been burned by "LARP moochers" in the past (including myself) and now are reluctant to assist others, especially when they are not good friends with said people and get absolutely nothing out of the deal. It would be one thing if you two had volunteered to split the cost of a hotel room, but to ask for free space and nothing in return is just a little bit much for most folks.

People do reguarly ask for crashspace at OWBN event games, this is very true. However, they generally offer to assist with the cost in some way. No one likes a beggar - especially one that is a stranger to them.

Can you see, then, how your request might have been construed as offensive to some people?

Thanks for your input! ^_^
I do see your point and actually appreciate it. I do understand where people are coming from, however, if someone has something like that to say, generally as a personal philosophy, one shouldn't say it at all.
I've been nothing but genial to my fellow man, unless provoked.
I see from your profile that you played the infamous Katja Nothing...HI! Glad to meet another freindly face!

Infamous, huh? Heh. You probably know my boyfriend's character, too, I'll bet - he's more infamous than I am. :)

I'm glad you were not offended. I know you will be traveling with a friend, at least, and that's good, but I am always stunned by the amount of people willing to spend the night (or multiple nights) in a complete stranger's hotel room at an event where there will be drinking and whatever else going on.

The issue of mooching aside, it just seems like a safety issue to me. OWBN has no background checks on its players or anything else like that, and I've heard of some nasty stuff happening in the past.

I would never sleep in a room with someone I didn't know. Maybe I'm just paranoid, or maybe it's because I'm a woman in a mainly male-dominated org, I dunno. :/ I've heard horror stories about stuff like that in the past. Whoever you do stay with, be safe.

To be honest, I do see your point.
Tracy, all things aside, knows alot more people in the Org than I do. I also see your point that it really is a saftey issue. I always love hearing people's opinions on things, you know? Openminded. Curse, blessing, you tell me! ^_^
Really, your boyfriend? Who does/did he play?

Midwinter is a gaming event in Milwaukee every year in January. Some say, it's the biggest one in our org. see www.owbn.org
How are you I heard you're not doing so good?
