Question (Follow up):

Where you start attracting attention with high levels of resources, the same comes with Fame of any level, and merits like Status at a high level. How would high resources necessarily attract more attention?

Answer (Alex):

The first answer (and there are several), is that being a supernatural multi-billionaire attracts attention from people who'd otherwise ignore you if you just have Fame or certain status types. Super-rich people tend to attract a certain type of attention and it's *difficult* to hide enormous amounts of wealth. Unlike in the movies or spy novels, it's really tough to be the secret mastermind who somehow controls vast amounts of wealth. Governments have had an unpleasant habit of sticking their noses into that sort of thing, and they can be difficult to buy off. The same applies to criminal organizations.

As a follow-up, something has to be done, as Resources 5 has assets at $500,000 listed. A good 40% of the population of my area EASILY overcomes that with JUST their house.

I don't have Chronicler's Guide to see the chart in there, so I'd be interested in seeing what they propose.

Ah, yeah, 500k is resources 4.

5M is still not that impressive. There are prolly several thousand people in the DC Metro area that have 5M in assets.

When you think about it, most professional sports atheletes have close to that and not many are all that well known. (seriously, how many of you can pick out the starting right tackle for your local sports team? or hell, any other team?)

Just to point out;

Dots in the resources merit "represent disposable income - wealth and assets that can be liquidated for more money in case of emergency."

$50,000 of completely disposable income per month, and $5 million of easily liquidatable assets is a lot of money. It's entirely reasonable to assume that levels above this would be exceedingly rare.

/agree.

You can live a nice lifestyle (nice house, pretty car) and have a very low resources. it just means you're living above your means or barely scraping by.

I've also seen numerous games where the ST staff allowed frivolous things being thrown around, one specific player throws around more than the GNP of most nations in a given game session. Nobody ever seems to notice that one person moves billions per year.

I think it should be exceedingly difficult even to maintain the standards of Resources 5 in the current system. Very few people can buy houses in cash, and that is very realistic. I don't know what the fun is of playing a vampiric Bill Gates. I can't even fathom how a person would own a mansion without vast networks of paid-off professionals to obscure the paper trail.

I DO play that side of the field. I play a character with Resources 5 and vast holdings. As part of the character, I did the research necessary to have my hands in these things, and I played around with a lot of numbers. I don't see much more as possible to upkeep without drawing Masquerade-breaking attention.
