There was a time when the future promised to be shiny and bland, like a tastefully furnished living room in a junior lawyer's dream house or the bridge on the Enterprise-D. Interesting timing. I just read a post by Darth Mojo kind of on this topic. (Mojo is a special effects guy on the new Battlestar Galactica who also worked on Babylon 5 and Star Trek Voyager & TNG, among others.) He has some thoughts about why the smaller conventions and festivals are a shadow of their former glory. Some of the reader comments on the post are interesting as well.
