Sorry folks I dont know how to do an "el jay cut," I dont use this thing much. Give me some feedback on the pics, I am going to be graded on which ever one I decide to hand in, thanks.
I think that 2,3,4 are the best to hand in because they don't have issues with cropping, on all the others some stuff is cut off. If the woman's head was all there, I'd say the last one is the best. 5 is pretty sweet too, but I dunno about the right side being cut off. Sweet pictures though.
one thing i forgot to mention was the assigment that they were for. with the crosswalk, it was supposed to show deeper depth of field, that is: the foreground and the lady whose head was cut off/the bicycles are all in focus at once--my teacher really liked the pic so i printed it. I basically need one pic that shows shallow and one that shows deep depth of field, i was gonna use one of the ones with emily for shallow and either the crosswalk or the vents for deep... i definetly get what you are saying tho. This was just my first roll/first time printing anything on my own, I'll keep posting them tho, I like the feedback/advice, thanks timmo.
feedback! the first one, I wouldn't do because it's the sort of picture that looks like if it wasn't in black and white, it could be just a point and shoot picture. similarly with the second one. That's the problem with black and white-- It makes things look artsier than they actually are, so you have to be careful.
The third and fourth I like because the focus looks more professional.
The fifth is interesting but...again, if it wasn't in black and white--
I like the sixth because it seems like it captures a moment.
I actually just decided I like the seventh because the lighting is close to perfect and the shadow behind the grave creates a dark feeling for the picture, which in itself is dark.
The 8th I like because similar to the 6th, it captures a moment. And the focus looks good.
Then the 9th I feel like is just a picture of a crosswalk. I don't really know if I understand it.
ahah wow, thanks for taking the time to think about/write all of that. I agree with what you said about the first two, i think i like those just because of the subjects, i wasnt gonna hand those in because as I said in a previous reply, the assignment was to show shallow and deep depth of field...i was gonna use one of emily, either in the park or ont he sidewalk and the one of the crosswalk or the side of the building--haven't settled on either yet but im gonna have to reprint them anyway, make sure everything is nice and dust free and whatnot in the enlarger. The crosswalk pic was to show depth of field more than anything, i kinda took it on a whim and didnt really think much of it at the time but my teacher liked it and it sorta started to grow on me. anyways, thanks for the response, i love hearing what people think of my pictures, can you tell me how to do a lj cut though so next time they wont take up so much space? thanks again.
the last one is the best i think. It reminds me of friedlander..cuz it has a sort of voyeristic feel to it (due to the shadow)so you could say like i feel this picture displays how i feel in a new enviroment..but yeah its interesting and the other ones i find either somewhat cluttered or unfocused on the subject matter.. But i dont know what your assignment was.
