In the beginning, there was a calculator. The calculator ran on Reverse Polish Notation, and it was good. The engineers used the efficient RPN calculator, and were happy. All was right with the world

I'm sorry about your RPN, (or lack there of) incident. I'm totally with you about the evils of TI. But you should be happy that HP is coming out with new calculators. There will still be a chance to oppress TI!!
expensive college

Everything in college is so expensive because they know you'll pay it or leave. They don't like it if you leave, so they try to find the best way to take all of your money without making you decide to leave. It's just like all the extraneous (sp?... I'm tired) fees they throw on, like "Facilities Fees" or "Special Fees" or one of a dozen dozen (or 144) fees they decide to put on. Oh sure, I'm getting most of school paid for so I can't complain either, but hey, I'd like to be able to keep my $600 each semester that I shell out.
And just because I don't know what RPN is doesn't mean I can't comment (First Amendment woo!). Just because it's more efficient than "Algebraic Notation" doesn't mean that you should just cry foul when you can't use RPN. You'll notice in college that you'll be required to do things the hard way when you know an easier way a lot. And sometimes you can get an easy way out of doing something that you aren't comfortable with (like my abuse of my twin brother for math issues... heh heh)

And a note on that... stuff in college would be more expensive if not for the mass production of the stuff you need, like textbooks et al. TI wants to make as much money as possible (see: capitalism) so made a dumbed-down calculator that, while slower, was easier to understand.
