--> Here To be honest, Morgana had always scared him. Even as a child she had been unpredictable and difficult, as their father had put it. To Arthur she had been both a competitor and an ally, she would choose her battles and fight. He admired her at times and other times - most times - she made him cry out in frustration. He didn’t understand her. It was a simple and as complicated as that.
She had made an ultimatum to her father. He had not given an inch, and then she was gone. At least in this they were the same, no compromises. They knew now that she had changed her last name to her grandmother’s maiden name. Morgana Gorlois. They knew now that she had a son. Mordred. 9 years old. And it hurt, it hurt a lot that she hid him from them. She had been 19 when she left, 21 when Mordred was born and now she had been reported missing by her 9 year old son and their neighbour. Some gold digging algebra teacher who claimed he wanted to adopt the boy.
Arthur and his father had agreed the boy needed to be with family, in stable conditions. He was coming home and Arthur had arrived with the best lawyers money could buy at his back to make sure. This would be settled in no time, it wouldn’t even reach court. Worst case, they would have to throw money or a nasty lawsuit at the man to make him go away. Piece of cake.
He marched towards victory and caught sight of this Merlin Ryhs fellow though the window to the meeting room, and he stopped. Ryhs was flanked by his legal advisor Gawin Green, both studying the case folder. Mordred was moving back and forth piloting a Lego space ship. He was a mix of Morgana’s features and someone Arthur didn’t recognize. Suddenly during a daring manoeuvre a wing broke and the boy ran over to the men, tugging on Rhys’ jacket.
Ryhs held up his index finger in a move Arthur knew meant “Quiet, I’m busy” and the boy took a step back. Well, there would be no more of that! Arthur vowed to make sure there would always be someone around that Mordred could ask for help.
Then Rhys took down his finger and Mordred bounced forward. Green leaned back casually in his seat, taking a sip of his cup like this was an ordinary thing. Ryhs and Mordred leaned over the table and together they repaired the wing. Mordred grinned and the men leaned over the papers again.
For the first time since this began, Arthur felt nervous.
