Morris, in my head, really hated working for Arthur and with everything going on and all the killings, he'd want to get as far away as he could. Plus I love giving a really small character some backstory. We never see him again after ep. 1. So he either left or hid among the other servants and tried to stay out of the way.

I really did like this the way you wrote it originally, but the subtle changes you made in both parts, made it more believable to me. Nicely done.
