Shivering, Morgana pulled her large shawl around her shoulders. During these dreary, chilly late winter days it had long seemed impossible to find proper warmth in any of the stone-walled drafty chambers and halls of Camelot Castle, even with fires blazing.

"How I long for brighter and warmer days," she sighed to Gwen, who was just arriving with a small basket on her arm.

"It won't be long now," Gwen answered cheerfully. "I heard that today is Imbolc in the old tradition, the day when the new year starts overcoming winter. And look, I found snowdrops along the garden wall, and picked them for you. Aren't they pretty?"

Morgana reached out for the delicate white flowers, cradling them with her cold hands. The mere sight and touch of this sure sign of coming spring made her feel better.

"Let's have a small celebration, just the two of us," she smiled. "But not a word to anyone else. You know what Uther thinks of the old religion's feast days."

"I do indeed. Shall I fetch some wine?"

"Yes, please. And a vase for the flowers. I'll keep them on my table as a reminder. A promise of returning light and warmth."
