This is a non-fiction book about the 'making and breaking of elite gymnasts and figure skaters.' Breaking is the right word - they don't hold back at all. It's quite horrific what the girls have been through. The injuries they ignored - for years sometimes - the damnage done to them from all the training while they are still growing, and the damange caused by trying to delay puberty in order to keep looking like a little girl. The coaches, one in particular sound just horrific, verbally and sometimes physically abusing the gymnasts.
It certianly makes you look at gymnastic and figure skaters differently. It did seem like things were starting to change, and it doesn't mention anything about British gymnastics at all, which is a bit of a relief. Certianly the British gymnasts look more like their age than the American gymnasts do.
I've also discovered that I really can't work out how gymnast is spelt.
