Summary: Prompt was 'hope'. Kenzi thinks about how things are with Bo.
Kenzi has always been a fighter. She's had to be, living on the streets as long as she has. Some would say that running away to being with isn't wouldn't really suggest that she is. But it was a fight to leave that place, and it's been a fight to survive ever since.
Kenzi adjusts quickly, moulding from role to role, never staying as one persona very long. Sometimes she morphs because she gets bored, sometimes it's because she's in danger and she needs to get away. She does have a talent for pissing people off.
So when she finds Bo, a decent person who doesn't want to take advantage of her, Kenzi knows what a good thing she's found. And, of course, she fights to keep it.
Bo is Kenzi’s hope. It’s been a long time since she’s had someone to depend on, someone who’s proved they won’t leave her when times get tough. It took Kenzi a little while to realise that they really were a pair, and that this wasn't going to end any time soon.
Their relationship is easy, even though Bo is an unaligned Fae and they have a way of getting themselves into trouble. But it was never awkward between them. Whether that comes from Bo saving her life, or Kenzi being the only human Bo’s trusted with her secret, she doesn’t know, nor does she care.
Kenzi likes to think that she keeps Bo grounded, since the woman hasn't had to deal with all the pitfalls of being human, especially with her magic powers of seduction. And Bo needs that from her, wants that from her. But she also wants something else; something Kenzi is willing to give - her friendship, her love. And it's something Kenzi is happy to give.
What their relationship is, she can't quite put her finger on. They are somewhat akin to sisters, but Bo is a Succubus after all, and Kenzi is drawn to her in more ways than one. They hug without thinking about it, and when they end up in trouble, Bo always reaches for Kenzi’s hand, squeezing a promise to keep her safe.
Kenzi finds comfort in the older woman’s touch, and late at night, when Kenzi is lonely and she knows Bo is alone, she sneaks down the hall into the brunette's room. Bo is a light sleeper and always wakes at her entrance. She lifts the covers, Kenzi slipping in beside her. Bo snakes an arm around the petite girl, pulling her close and fitting her body to Kenzi’s.
Kenzi's pulse quickens for a moment as she feels the length of Bo's body against her own. But Bo's slow breathing on the back of her neck soothes her, and when it evens out Kenzi can tell the other woman is asleep. It's comforting, to have a warm arm around her waist, to roll over and rest her head on Bo's shoulder, falling asleep with the sound of Bo's heart beating rhythmically in Kenzi's ear.
It doesn’t happen all the time, just often enough for Kenzi to know she’s always welcome. And it’s not something they talk about - it’s just another part of their relationship that they accept.
