How was it for me?

Back from hols. Heatwave. Mosquitos. Earthquake*. Electrical failure. Rain. Delayed flight. Heathrow Airport.

Jolly good fun, all round. As I told The Daughter - never let it be said that we don't take her on adventure holidays!

* yes. really.

Fun in the Dunkirk spirit sense then?

Oh definitely. Especially the evacuation from the electrically-impaired accommodation in the pouring rain!

Indeed. It was so eventful that for the second year running I completely failed to read the large Dan Brown novel I had with me. Which is probably quite a good thing, really. (it's getting to be a well-travelled book - I wonder where it'll go next year?)

Same here with my Wraeththu. I haven't finished the Opus yet. The big book travels with me everywhere as well.

Well it wasn't big enough to make the international news, it was about four-point-something on the earthquake scale, but it was large enough to shake the entire converted church building we were staying in for about three or four seconds. We were in bed, and The Husband was sure that the cherubs flying overhead would be the last thing he saw as they hurtled downwards throwing chunks of masonry. I was half asleep and thought a large vehicle or something had run into the building, however given that the roads up to the top of the town were all about one (narrow) car's width, getting such a vehicle up there would have been a tad difficult.

Fortunately, there was no structural damage, and I learned the Italian for "earthquake", which is "terramoto" (all the local newspapers had suitably terramoto-ish headlines for the next couple of days)
