This year, courtesy of Ebay, I have bought not one, but two big, flouncy taffeta evening frocks with puffy net underskirts. I have already worn the red one to The Husband's work's Christmas Do, but that still leaves the similarly be-netted black one. I am considering wearing it, Fanny Craddock-style, on Christmas Day while I swan around the ( Read more... )

Is determined to wear black velvet and pearls for Xmas day, regardless of the cooking. And at breakfast.

I think gin and tonics make the perfect compliment to almost any outfit, fabulous frocks included. If you plan on multi-tasking while looking smashing while getting smashed, there is absolutely no reason to not go completely over the top. Always look good, even while avoiding grease fires. =D

Yes, a gin & tonic is the perfect accessory. I think what I need to avoid the grease hazard is an equally flouncy pinny. Unfortunately, all my pinnies are bit on the utilitarian side and covered in gravy stains, but perhaps Santa will bring me something pink and frilly which screams "insane 50's housewife tanked out of her brain on gin and valium" ;-)

Oh, to be at your house and watch you work your magic with goose and G&T!! And all with black netting as well. I can only imagine, and it makes me smile. Just don't set your netting on fire!! :D

Yes, there is always the risk of conflagration when performing highly technical culinary...stuff. I always worried about Fanny and her bouffant 'do, which must have taken several cans of hairspray to fix into that rock-solid configuration. Fortunately, my netting is at the other end, so barring any episode of swinging from the light fittings* I should be okay
