I have quit smoking again. I have done this only once before, in June 2006. That time it lasted about two years. I'm not proud to say I started again mainly because I gained weight (quite a bit of it though). This time however, I'm prepared for it and will do what I can to minimize the 'damage' - hopefully, with enough exercise and a wholesome diet ( Read more... )

I'm sure you get loads of unwanted advice, so feel free to ignore this, but when it comes to giving something up, I recommend treating every day as if it was the first day.

It's always worked for me.

My wife and I did it about 7 years ago now. It sucked. It sucked so bad. Really, it was terrible :(

However, now that I don't smoke, I can't even stand the smell of tobacco smoke. It makes me queasy.

Yet since quitting I can't tell you how much better I feel. I can hike for miles without getting tired. I've even competed in a few 5k's and done a couple 50k & 75k bike rides for charities without problems. I feel so much better (and more athletic) now in my 30's than I did in my teens, and its only because I don't smoke.

Besides, it'll save you about $4-6 a day financially. That's always a plus.
