Perhaps the primary reason that the American auto industry is collapsing now is not that their cars are simply inferior to foreign imports from Japan, Germany, Korea, etc - convenient though that narrative might be. GM's been on the rocks before...it has to do with the convoluted, redundant, and inefficient management structure they revamped into and even more convoluted and still inefficient "basketweave matrix". The fact that it has a name like that should be a big clue.

Yeah, it's been on the rocks before - and certainly some of its problems both then and now are because of management issues. But it's not usually in quite this much trouble, so I was trying to look at why it's worse now than it has been before.
