Reflections after Irish Fair

Forgive me. This entry is probably going to be the first in a series. I think I'm working through something. & I'll preface it by saying I'm going to a planning meeting for Diversicon tonight. Yes, it's a sf&f convention that focusses on race and other issues of diversity. I'm also wearing an Irish Pride t-shirt. It's black with orange lettering, ( Read more... )

*hugs* another irish-american here (suprise, eh? :D ). It's interesting, because my father, while he wasn't exactly waving the flag, wasn't too down about it. In fact, my dad was very insistant we do NOT wear green for St. Patrick's day, as we were Irish PROTESTANTS rather then the Catholics who sported the kelly color. I think I told you about my mom making my brother and me clothes with orange and a wee bit of green (so we could get out of the "no green = pinchies" clause).

LOL - No one pinched when I was a kid, but the Latinos pinch in my school now. You're mom had a good solution. I don't have proof, but I'm thinking my ancestry is orange too, or a bit mixed and muddy brown. My family isn't Catholic, and Great-Great Grandfather Kennedy was a minister. Lutheran minister I believe, but it seems Catholic families stay at least somewhat Catholic.

And BTW, my father liked the Irish Rovers, especially the Unicorn song and "My father he was orange and my mother she was green" which supports my theory. He thought the Rovers were hilarious!

Thanks for the hugs!
