Stupid Laws

I keep hearing about these stupid laws and felt that I needed to rant about them. It appears that as Americans we can no longer decide how to run our own businesses. In both New York and Ohio they have band smoking in establishments. When did the government decide that they can start running our lives. You would think we were in Communist ( Read more... )

Preach it, Brothah!

Really, though... The purpose of government is to keep us from doing things that are bad for ourselves, right? I mean, if I have choices, I might make wrong ones. If I don't have choices, then I can blame all bad outcomes on other people! Seriously, personal responsibility is SO overrated.

That absurdity aside, I agree with you totally. People have decided: First, that it is appropriate to enforce their will on others. Second, that government is a good way to do this.

Friedrich Hayek wrote about about when society makes these decisions... He calls it The Road to Serfdom. Need I say more?

The smoking one...I'm kinda so-so about. Simply because, in my mind, you can only go so far with the "If you don't like it, you don't have to go there" argument when someone's personal health is damaged through another's actions ( ... )
