Random Question

Yesterday, on the way to Mike's place a random question came to me. While thanks to several friends I think we found an answer that makes sense to me I figured I would share this to see if anyone else has some insights.

Why are pipes round? Have they always been round? Wouldn't it have been easier to make them square?

Some fun random

From wikipedia, it sounds like pipes were originally hollowed out trees. Maybe they've continued round just because that's how it always has been? With only a couple minutes of looking, that's all I see.
