a-announcement.

So, ah, there's no easy way of saying this, but I'm dr--

OKAY OKAY, DON'T KILL ME I-I was just kidding. MORE IMPORTANTLY, Biz, ze Box, and I got together and spoke about a few things. After much discussion, we've decided to change our policy regarding bans.

Over a year ago (fall 2005, actually!), Biz and I were unsure about how to shape the ban policy, so we polled the community. The general consensus that was reached was that "banned is banned, end of story." Which was fine at the time! However, I don't think any of us expected for the game to go on for two years.

After discussing it amongst ourselves, we've decided to allow people to appeal their bans after a certain amount of time. Here are the stipulations:

- The ban cannot be appealed for one year. When we first polled the community about bans, it was only six or so months old. We feel it's appropriate to get a lot of time in there, to give people distance and time to think and whatnot.

- Appealing the ban does not automatically mean the ban will be rescinded. We'll review any appeal we receive and decide amongst ourselves whether it's appropriate to lift the ban at that point in time. We have the right to decline to lift any bans appealed, given the circumstances.

- If the ban is rescinded, a probation period will be put in place. That is to say, if we lift a ban and the formerly banned gets voted in, there will be a probation period of three months, where we implement a one strike policy.

Appealing a ban is simple -- what you need to do is e-mail all three mods with your LJ name, who you formerly played, and when and why you were banned. From there, we'll discuss amongst ourselves whether enough time has passed and if we're comfortable with lifting the ban. Our goal is to get back to anyone inquiring about this ASAP, but please understand if it takes us a few days to reply to any appeals.

And ... that's it! Times change, people change, and we as moderators would like to be accomodating to that. At the same time, we understand that policy changes like these can make people uncomfortable. If there are any problems with this change in policy, just bring them up in this post and we'll discuss them and figure something out! ♥
