Previously, we had a very scientific method of figuring out idles ("HEY [MOD], HAVE YOU SEEN [X] OUT ANYWHERE?" "NOT IN THE LAST TWO MONTHS, [OTHER MOD]." "... K I'LL ASK AROUND."). We generally have been very lenient about idles! If the player has been active in CFUD period, we tend not to get on people about idling with certain characters because god knows we all do it sometimes.
Recently, we decided to fiddle with this a bit to see if we could find a better way of doing idles without playing "Where's Waldo" with the lists. We put our heads together to figure out the best way to handle this, and here's how we're going to roll from here on out.
1) Starting the first week in October, there will be an activity check post every two months. The first post will go up on Saturday, for example. A mod will post it at some point during the first week of the month - probably on the first, possibly later than that depending on our availability. The post will be active for one week, and it will be very simple.
All you will have to do is comment with your LJ name (if you have one; if not, just your primary character) and the characters you play. That's it. Uber easy! All of this will also be explained on the post. After a week, we'll go through the lists and cross-check them with those that commented on the activity check and will go a-idling.
All hiatuses posted within a month before the start of the activity check will be honored. As long as you posted to the OOC comm, (one of) your character journal(s), or e-mailed us re: a hiatus, you are exempt from this activity check. So say, for example, Yzak goes on hiatus on September 2nd and we post the check on October 2nd. Since she is allowed a month for a hiatus, she is safe! Even if she is just barely in the month mark. This also applies to those who just e-mail us re: hiatuses. We will literally just click that "hiatus" tag, go back a month, and mark off who's on hiatus, and we will also check character journals before we actually idle someone. If you post in one of those? You should be fine.
Obviously, this system isn't perfect and people could just come in and comment to stay in without really playing. If you comment and we haven't seen you playing recently, we may pull you aside to talk about it and see if there's anything we can do to help! YOUR MODS ARE HERE FOR YOU. If you comment to the post, you will not be idled without warning.
We will even slap a link up in the IRC topic if need be. If you pay attention to CFUD, the chances of you missing this post are nill. We strongly recommend commenting to it the minute you see it! It will take less than a minute, we swear.
If for some reason you miss the post and it's an honest mistake, please just e-mail us! We are chill and don't want to idle out people who are still interested in playing. :(d
2) Nothing changes re: activity for apping. We trust players to know their limits; we do, however, reserve the right to raise concerns if we have them. But this is the same as it's always been with approvals! If we feel there is a cause for concern, then it will be raised in the e-mail and discussed with the player.
3) Since this has come up a couple of times, we will never idle on demand. If a player is on the campers/counselors list, then we have seen them playing and they still have the character in the game. If there are concerns about a player's activity, you are more than welcome to contact us and we would be more than happy to help mediate and discuss things with the other player. Like all player issues, we only ask that you attempt to bring this issue to the other player first.
For the first check, we will be as chill as possible! Again, it will be very straight-forward and we will not require anything like links or whatever like we do when you e-mail us for approval for apping. :|d
