Looks like we're getting new counselors. This is SPLENDID, seeing as how I need to further minimize my already pitiful workload. Hi everyone, my name is Father Abel Nightroad, I'm a spiritual director and I enjoy cell phone games and long walks on the beach.

Anyway! It's firefly season, right?

I remember...ah, it's been a few years now already, but. My boss and I, and some of her other friends--we used to go out on nights like these. I was rarely alone, then. Which in retrospect was probably the best thing I could have asked for. You know how children do it, right? You take a jar, you poke holes in the lids, you amble around outside awhile until the bugs start showing up. I used to get bitten by mosquitoes all the time, but, well, that's just the way things work for me. And anyway, those jars would look lovely, depending on how many of those things you could get your hands on. And of course you'd let them out at the end.

Winter isn't much my season, though you could say I've certainly, ah. Got the colors for it. It's summer--warm now, but not too hot. Nights like these, with the moon out but the sun not yet gone--you can see the stars as they begin to appear... Well! Call me a sentimentalist, because I am, but. You can't tell me it doesn't feel at least a little like magic.

...

Oh, yeah, if you see large groups of fireflies in the woods, they're actually clustering around active land mines. THE MORE YOU KNOW.
