And you thought you were safe

[This is not nighttime as you know it.

Slow and seeping, winding and creeping, it chases the last hint of sunset from the sky. Mist covers the ground, cool and damp, and clouds steal over the face of the moon. Corners grow darker, lights dimmer. The noises in the quiet are just a bit louder, and that one may have been the floorboard behind you creaking, the soft sound of breathing, the brush of something that means you are not alone.

Soft sobs echo in the hallways of the labs. The sounds of small creatures moving through the swamp end one after the other in wet, sucking noises. There's a scent in the air of something rotting, something rusted, something moving that should have long since been left for dead. This is the night your oldest stories are scared of, when the lights go out, when things move in the dark, when the only thing you can see in the shadows is the glint of eyes.

Trick or treat is over, and the costume is slipping, the mask is falling, and what lurks underneath is the most terrifying thing of all.

Stay tight in your beds, boys and girls. Dawn is a long way away.]

((OOC: In this post... fear status effect! Even with characters who are normally fearless, there's just something prickly and WRONG about tonight. Monsters and zombies are nastier, the things that go bump in the night might actually be there, and really, it's an excuse to play that emotional range. WHAT IS YOUR CHARACTER LIKE WHEN GOOSEY? GO HAVE FUN.

Alternatively, if yours is far more the type to be something that goes bump in the night, feel free to let your bad side out. It's a night to be enjoyed, after all~

ALSO small note, I'm not replying to everyone in this post o/ sob homework))
