We want to believe that we control our own lives, that we get to make choices. There are plenty of societies that reject that. They are content to live their lives believing that they are living them as has been written. To the Greeks, every action they took was because the Gods made them. If you murdered your neighbor it was because the gods wanted you to, and when you were convicted and stoned to death, well the gods wanted that too. Try and prove to me that you control your own life, that it hasn't been written for you. Ever done a google search for your own name? Interesting stuff.
