At a time like this. . . I can't help but think of a place I visited once. It doesn't have much to do with what's going on, but it might be a good distraction or something to think on.

Among the rumors that travelers share on their journeys, there was a country that was said to be inhospitable to travelers. The country was founded by a group of people that were cast out of their home and would not be accepted in anywhere else. Deep in the forest, at the base of a smoking mountain, they found fertile lands and created their own country where they would be welcome. Yet whenever a traveler would call, they would serve bad food to them and close their doors when the traveler went past. Eventually, no one would visit the country. After awhile, a traveler decided to visit the unkind country to see if the rumors were true. When the traveler arrived, the country welcomed them warmly and were very kind. They spoke of their cultures and traditions while offering their services along with their best food and lodging.

After three days, it was time for the traveler to leave and they sent them off just as warmly as they had come. When night fell, the traveler made camp on a ridge out of the valley the country was in just as the people said to. In the middle of the night, they were awoken by a horrible sound. The smoking mountain erupted, and took the country and its people with it. You see, the inhabitants knew what was to become of them and had hoped only to change what people had thought of their country. To pass on their heritage and traditions as well. . . It was luck that they managed to be able to do so with just one traveler that had stopped there just a few days before.

. . . And that's it.
