The Girl With the Ribbon Accessory

[There's a monkey-boy dressed like the grim reaper and a sorceress dressed like a witch sitting at a table in the mess hall today. The table is appropriately decorated for the holiday. The boy is telling a story...]

Gordon had been in love with Rachel all his life. They'd even been playmates when they were kids. But one thing Gordon couldn't help but notice was that Rachel would wear a Ribbon around her neck every day, no matter what.

"So Rachel, why do you always wear the Ribbon?" He asked her, but she wouldn't say. But she did agree to go with him to the theater that night.

And she agreed to go with him on an airship the next week, and to a fancy restaurant after that, and so on. They really were quite the couple.

After they got engaged, he asked "why do you always wear the Ribbon?"

"Maybe I'll tell you someday," she said, but hinted that he might find out after they got married.

The big day came, and after all the "I dos" and partying, he asked her about the Ribbon again. With a tear in her eye, Rachel said "we have our whole lives. Why not wait a little longer?"

After that, Gordon didn't bring up the subject for a long time-after all he got pretty busy with his job and raising his family. His wife's Ribbon didn't seem like a big deal anymore. But then, Rachel got sick. And she wasn't getting any better. The whole family gathered around her death bed to say their final good-byes.

"My dear Gordon," Rachel said. "I never told you about my Ribbon. I think ... you can take it off now."

Gordon reached for the Ribbon that had been around his wife's neck as long as he could remember, and pulled it loose ...

((I'm out to dinner, but I'll be back to pick up threads old and new later! Back! Happy Hallowe'en!))
