Even the fearsome Lich was once human. They say he was a member of the forest tribe, a curious sort of people with a tradition of masking their faces. They only reveal themselves to their most intimate acquaintanes, you see. When he was a man, the Lich was in love with the prettiest, richest girl in the village. He was a poor miner, and as such often failed to catch her attention.
'Meet me at the square when the moon is highest,' she told him. 'Bring me the greatest ore from the mine, and I'll show you what you want to see.' The man was elated. He dug as deep into the veins of the mine as he could, and found himself a jewel to buy his love.
When he met the girl by moonlight, she told him 'you must show me yourself, first, before you see me.'
And as he took off his mask, ev'ry member of the village lit their lanterns so that they might see his face, and laugh at his betrayal.
Shamed and angered, the man clutched the stone to his breast and prayed that the earth would swallow him whole. The earth obliged, and a sinkhole opened beneath the village, sending every one tumbling to their deaths.
[The mist lies light on the ground tonight in Camp Fuck You Die, but it's enough to keep you from noticing the hole that has opened in the earth just beyond the Crypt. If you listen closely, you can hear moaning, and the rattling of bones ... ]
((CYOA event! This is intended to be combat-free, so anyone can particpate. As this is my first go at this, I've also written it to be on the short side (hopefully). I'll be Zidane in #victoryfanfare if you need me.))
