Checking for unexpected cultural gaps. I'm at least passingly familiar of customs in most countries on Earth, but I'd be quite unprepared for dealing with extraterrestrial cultures.

That's true. Though even if a camper is from "Earth", the customs of their universe or time could be quite different still.

Yes, but finding out how one Earth differs from another seems to be a rather tricky business.

It certainly is. It would also seem that some non-Earth worlds are not entirely unlike Earth, either.
